I have a question about after the surgery, and potential problems

I had gallbladder removal surgery about a week and a half ago. They were supposed to do it laparoscopically but even though I had had an endoscopy that told them I had a major ulcer they had to do an open surgery kind of on the fly as apparently the ulcer got in the way. After the surgery I was released the day after and have been experiencing massive pain on my right side. Along with it being swollen, hard, and hot. My surgeon says this is normal and to come in at the normal time he scheduled me for my follow up. It has gotten so swollen it is affecting the staples causing them to rip and stretch the skin around them. I'm going in to the hospital on monday but I wanted to know if this swelling means I'll be admitted or if I'm just worried about nothing.
