Bowel problem thats been around for four months

In mid-August, I was unable to poop for about 4 days, and I usually poop every day. Then, when I did finally poop, the stools were little balls and came out in very small amounts over 3 or 4 sittings. As I increased water+fiber, they became long and skinny and colored in a blotchy way of light and dark.  I didn't really experience any pain but it took a long time to pass the stools and I would do it only every other day or so. I figured my colon was impacted, so I drank even more water and fiber but things didn't improve. I always have terribly loud and horrible smelling gas. Sometimes so powerful that I will I have urges to go to the bathroom and will sit down and nothing but a painful loud fart happens. I then wipe and it is a mixture of blood and dry sticky stool. Eventually the stools became short, light colored, and strangely shaped. Though I was pooping every day, I still had the terrible gas and the poop was dry and hard to pass. Now recently I have been drinking lots of water and ate a ton of fiber. I had painful diarrhea followed by loads of soft and strangely colored and textured poop. The movement left my whole area down there sore and dry and red. I still have the gas and it hurts more and more all the time when I try to hold it in. Sometimes it comes out even when I don't fart. Recently I have had to go to the bathroom 5-6 times per day, nothing really comes out but I feel like i need to.

I'm only 18 and rarely smoke, chew, or drink. What could be the problem? Should I see a doctor or something else?

Thank you, but just recently, (10 min ago), I pooped and an undigested portion of a tostidos chip came out by itself not inside the poop or anything. What does this mean? I will be seeing a doctor soon but just asking

On second thought...  before you do anything further, see a proctologist to be sure that you aren't so impacted after 4 months that he might need to give you something stronger just to clean you out.

And from there, he can suggest a good stool softener besides the psyllium-type.

I think what you did (and remember we aren't doctors here) is that you initially had dry stools, you drank water and ate fiber, but you were blocked up, buddy.  So the longer the stool remains in the intestine the more water it's absorbing, but you ate all that fiber so you made the new stools even dryer.

It sounds like a cause and effect story.  The blood - if it was fresh - could be from straining or trying to physically wipe the stool out of the rectum (you didn't say).

Big issue there if you're eating fiber and still not taking a normal bowel movement to start with.

Check with a proctologist to see if you might have polyps or - by now perhaps from straining - you might have hemorrhoids that are bleeding from wiping hard or trying to get the stool out by straining.

Next time try a stool softener instead of fiber and water, but do see a doctor to make sure you aren't doing damage.

Psyllium will promote the gas issue because it's a fiber not unlike raw broccoli, califlower, etc...  So if it's staying in the intestines it's creating heat and consequently, gas.

Just my thoughts....

Hi Mikey, its best you do to a doctor.  You could have something serious going on with your intestinal track.  From what I've read and heard by other individuals like yourself, not having a bowel movement for several days and bloody stools may or could be something serious.  Go to a Gastro Doc specialist they will be able to target specifics.
