Gall Bladder Operation for Family Member

A family member has been told they require a gall bladder operation due to cysts in their gall bladder and has questions about options and had been offered a variety of ideas. If anyone has been through this procedure perhaps they could offer their input:
They are having their gall bladder removed laparoscopically.  The surgeon to whom the gastroenterologist referred them is highly regarded, but he is a vascular surgeon.  What type of surgeon usually does this procedure?  Is it unadvisable to use a vascular surgeon?

getting a GI doc is always advisable when you're playing with the digestive tract.

I had the operation through a general surgeon. It seemed as he was professional and he has done many. Everything went smooth. It did not however fix my problems and he was not willing to further investigate...but then again he is a surgeon not a gastroentologist.
