Are these GI & Neuro symptoms related?

Hello:

Soon to be 36 year old woman here; wondering if symptoms are interrelated.

---> Migraines started 1 Jan 13 and were under control for awhile, only to come back a few weeks ago with a vengeance. To further complicate the matter, I was taken off preventative medication due to having been in the hospital for four days for elevated liver counts.

--> I was diagnosed with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction in June of this year. Though the constipation has resolved itself, I still have some of my symptoms of bloating, nausea and pain after eating.

With nausea being a common factor between these conditions, and the migraines coming on after eat (no matter what it is), perhaps there is an underlining condition causing my symptoms?

(I feel that weather is also a trigger for my migraines; they seem to come about whenever it has changed.)

I am getting frustrated, as I am taken off my migraine preventative medication, yet the rescue medication isn't doing the trick. I need to work and my migraines are preventing me from doing that. They are severe and the medicine isn't helping, except take the edge off a bit. With my liver counts being an issue, the neurologist doesn't want me on anything now (even though my counts finally went back to normal last week).

I am seeing my GI doctor tomorrow. Any ideas as to what to say to him?

Please advise.

I don't want to end up disabled and unable to work if there is something that can be done.

Thank you,

K.

There is a strong link between celiac disease (gluten issues) and migraines. You may want to check on that.

Thank you. All my tests came back negative. I can ask which one it was, though I have a feeling it was the genetic oe, as my insurance didn't cover it the last time. I can ask the office, or check my insurance letter when it comes to make sure.

Thanks again,

If your doc did a 'simple' blood test (transglutaminase) to look for the presence of celiac, cover all the bases because those blood tests can easily be wrong. Check your genes for the presence of celiac or gluten-sensitive genes. There are a couple of companies that do it. Enterolab is one and the cost isn't horrendous.

Thank you. I asked my doctor yesterday and he tested me for that and other things. Even though the celiac results were negative a year ago, he wanted to cover all bases.

Thanks again.
