Left sided pain under rib and now tender abdomen

I've had this discomfort (not really painful) that started on my left side under last rib. It was like a pinching at first now it feels sore off and on. I also noticed my abdomen is tender in certain areas now. One doc got me a ultrasound-normal. This new doc. said I was constipated and gave me a bunch of stuff to take for 30 days. If I was constipated why would I still have bowel movements off and on? Can you have diarrhea and still be constipated? I just hope its not cancer or something horrible. I had an x-ray of abdomen and waiting on the results. What other test can they give me?

abdominal x-ray came back and nothing significant was concluded. But doc still wants me to take 2 different laxatives and prevacid for my sypmtoms. Dosen't this seem unwaranted. I'm pretty sure I'm not severely constipated. What should I do next?
