jejunum removal

I had my jejunum removed 2 years ago. I have not been able to digest solid foods with the exception of sashimi grade tuna in small doses. I didn't have any health issues. The reason for the surgery was that during insertion of a bladder sling the surgeon perforated my small intestines. A week later another surgeon was correcting the perforation and sewed my small intestines to my abdominal wall-basically sewed me shut. The mistake was undiscovered for almost 3 years. The final surgery was to remove the damaged tissue which was my jejunum and part of my ilium. Can anyone tell me what important role the missing parts of me played and why I can not eat?
Thank you
Dee

Thanks for your reply to my post. I'll start researching short bowel syndrome right away and look for a Doctor. So far no physicians have given any advice except to say don't eat fiber because of the blockages I have from extreme adhesions in my gut, due to all the surgeries. I juice my vegetables and avoid solid food or I inflame and look 7 months pregnant and get high heart rate and gut pain. I have learned that food is not worth the pain. I have small children to take care of so I do whatever it takes to not hurt. I have found that drinking juiced turmeric root helps with some of the pain.

Dee, you may want to do some reading on short bowel syndrome. It sounds like you may fall into that category. The jejunum is a portion of the small intestine that absorbs one heck of lot as the digested contents flow through. Ditto for the ileum. And if you're not dealing with a doctor that knows how to help those with that condition, seek one out. I believe it will do you a world of good. There are doctors and centers that specialize in the condition.
