Mystery gallbladder like pain

My wife (active 32 year old) has been having painful attacks anywhere from one to three months apart.  We have been to the emergency room twice and were referred to a gastroentronologist who performed a gallbladder test and a GI scope.  Both tests came up clear and no diagnosis or explanation for these attacks have been given.  She also had a cardiac stress test with no abnormal results.  The pain starts slowly directly under the point where her ribcage meets.  The pain builds and radiates through this area and her upper abdomen.  Often she will double over in pain and experience a slight relief in the fetal position.  The symptoms quickly dissipated in the ER when morphine was given.  She is having another attack tonight and we are at a loss of what steps to take next.  We are hesitant to make another trip to the ER at this point.  Could this be triggered by diet, stress, allergic reaction to something? Thanks!

well,i am a 34 year old male, and have been having same thing for 10,,,yes 10 years!!!!
mine will come and go,,the pain is dead center, and radiates to my back.
it only lasts a minute to several minutes and goes away.
i have had every kinda test to check for everything from pancreas to liver gullbladder hernia, ulcer hepatitis,,everything, and im fine,,so the tests all say!!!
i have not lost weight or turned yellow or thrown up,,nothing over the years,,,nothing but that pain that comes back.
i cannot link it to food,as i can eat spicey, fried exct.
i do notice it is worse if i have been sitting for a long period of time, and is worse on a completely empty stomach,,,if i stand up,,or eat something, this helps it.
i thought it was gallbladder or pancreas,,,,but all shows up well.
i hear GERD can cause this,,and gerd can cause esophigeal spasms that can hurt like a darn heart attack!!
i dont know,,,but i do get reflux sometimes, and take prilosect for it,this does nothing to help my pain i get though.
could this be muscular/skeletal?...i dont know,,,,but i can say after 10 years,,,im still kicking!!
if you find anything out, please let me know too.

I respond to you to let you know that I experience the exact same thing and have had all of the same tests with "normal" test results and no relief. I had seen 2 different GI doctors, a surgeon, and I have been to the ER. It seems like a lot of people suffer from the same thing on these board without any answers. I don't know what to do either. For me, it's not diet, b/c my pain is after anything I eat. I don't believe it is solely due to stress since there is a pattern (after I eat), but stress doesn't help it at all. When I went to the ER, they sent me home after a negative ultra sound and the GI doctor has blantanly told me that he does not know what it is. I feel like I am crazy b/c the pain is unreal and I am afraid to eat in order to avoid the pain, but nothing shows up on the test results to "prove" it. I am going to try to go back to the surgeon to see what he suggests. My opinion is that GI docs are looking for specific things, so it may help to go to doctors that think in a different way and have a different outlook on the human body. I will keep you posted, and please let me know if you have any success.
