Mystery pain in upper right abdomen under rib cage

I've had this pain (usually dull, achy, intermittent) for several years.  I've had the following tests which showed nothing:  ultrasound, upper GI, endoscopy, CT scan, hida (?) test on liver/gall bladder.  I have GERD and take meds daily (omeprazole 20 mg).  This pain is not daily.  It happens at odd times so I can't pinpoint a certain activity that causes it.  I do notice it starts acting up if I walk/stand for long periods of time (couple of hours).  If the area gets cramped (like bending over sometimes), I can feel it.  I am 48 years old and also taking meds for BP (lisiniprel 20 mg) and cholesterol (lipitor 20 mg).  I've done lots of research on the web because I'm frustrated that none of these tests showed anything so I'm not excited about returning again to the doctor.  Can IBS cause pain in this area?  Usually I've read that IBS causes discomfort in the lower abd. area.  I do have problems on and off from constipation but always attributed that to my diet.  Is there anything else that this pain (right side just under the rib cage) could be?  I'm a worry wart and I'm tired of worrying that its cancer - wouldn't those tests have picked that up if it were the case?  One doctor suggested it might be muscular/skeletal but what the heck does that mean as I've never injured myself in that area.  Any ideas would help.  Thank you!

I have pain in my upper abdomen after bending over from my wheelchair picking up a box of books. Only hurts when I bend or when I put my sock or shoes on. or put pressure on the site. I believe I strained a muscle or have a hernia.

Hey,

You know I have the same problem.  I get achy feeling under my rib cage on the right side.  I have elevated liver enzymes, but have had every test including a liver byopsy and they are all normal.  I have IBS also. Maybe it is associated with IBS some how?  I used to worry about it, but I have had so many damned tests that I can't imagine it actually being a realy problem anymore.  So I just don't worry about it anymore.  I'm healthy, I exercise and so forth.  I figure if there was something that bad with a major organ like the liver I would have lost weight and look sickly.

I hope my situation makes helps!

I have adhesions (scar tissue) from gallbladder surgery, pain pretty much 24/7 under my right rib, I'm seeing a pain management clinic for muscular/skeletal, I've had trigger point injections, physical therapy for abdominal muscle damage, cause and effect from the surgery.  I am a 49 yr old female, I had my gallbladder removed 9 yrs. ago, and with that I got IBS w/ severe diarrhea (pain and fatigue, alot of acid).   I take Questran (generic Cholestrymine) 1 tsp. w/ water at bed (One package can be to binding and constipate.),  It binds bile and stops my diarrhea.  If I don't take this at bedtime.  The next morning, no matter what I put in my mouth I will have diarrhea.  IAlso, try Protonix for acid.  I cannot eat gassy fruits or vegies, citrus or acidic foods, no fried or fatty foods, no dairy, no alcohol, caffiene, garlic, onions.  I eat low sugar, low fat meals - oatmeals, fiber one bars, fruit & nut bars, lean quisine meals, applesauce, activia yogurt. No real people food.
The Questran is a miracle for me.  I've just been put on Symax an antispasm med for your digestion. I also have dyspepsia (difficulty digesting). I live w/ pain everyday due to digestion and adhesions and it disrupts my life and family.  I hope some of my info can help you.
Good luck, I wish you all well.

Probably nothing but I am Hepititis C and right upper pain is a symptom of Hep c in the area of your liver. Hep C can often show no symptems and can only be diagnosed by a blood test that will test specifically for this will not be done in routine testing just something to ask about more commen than most people realize. Just a thought good luck with everythin.

I forgot to add that I have no other symptoms.  I never have diar. or vomiting, no blood in stools, no fever.  That's why this is so frustrating.  Thanks again!
