Black 'pepper' like spots in bm

What causes black 'pepper' sized dots in bm's?  I separated a few of the specks on the toilet paper and they are not 'mushy' but more like grains of sand.

I have just noticed this the last two days but have eaten one meal with lots of spices and had at least one banana every day for about a week.

I take one dose of aspirin daily, Centrum Silver Ultra for Women, Vit. D3, Calcium and a .25 mg Xanax once or twice daily.  My last colonoscopy was 13 months ago and other than some diverticulitis and hemorrhoids, it was fine.

Hi there!

Black particles in sand resembling grains of sand are likely to be related to dietary intake and should not be anything to worry about. However if these are soft and mixed with stools, these could represent an UGI bleed and may require an evaluation by a gastroenterologist.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!

I saw my Atlanta are Gastro today. He said 'black specks'  in a normal looking stool is undigested food fibers from things like bananas or veggies and of no concern.

I think you should have a stool sample evaluated, to rule out anything untoward even though you have  good gastro just to put your mind at ease. I'd also avoid spicy foods if you can as you already have gastrointestinal problems. I try to be kind to my stomach as I have intermittent colitis. However, some things you can't avoid like soy that can be hidden in stuff. I love my baked beans but these days they can be spicy. I won't give them up so I take anti acids before I eat them. Also eggs can give me stomach issues. However, when I had breast cancer and going through chemo I ate quite a few fried egg sandwiches without any problems. It's like my body craved it for some reason.
