Pain in right side, liver cyst. Why the pain? How can I find if it's cancer or not?

Hello everyone,I was just diagnosed with a liver cyst and diverticulosis while getting a CT scan of my abdomen for abdominal pain. The dr. said that these things should not cause any pain. Problem is is that there is pain. My whole right mid quadrant where my liver is is hurting on and off. Sometimes the pain is worse then others. Is this serious? I read up that that is a sign of liver cancer as well as possibly hepatitis, liver failure and several other very serious things. What should I do? What can be done to get to the bottom of this and find out what is really going on? Also is there anything I can ask him for for the pain? I also have been extremely tired(don't know if it's allergies or not) and notice alot of weight loss(in my face anyway)

ive got several liver cysts and hemangioma in extremely bad pain and have swellin on right side have been told by doc in hospital these do not cause pain seems like nobody listening. also been told hve several small kidney stones still not doin anything for me

Yikes - I have the same thing going on and have been going to the dr. since Jan. trying to figure out what is causing me sooo much pain. Pain in under my breast and rib cage, ultrasound showed a 5.7 cm cyst along with other smaller cyst - just said multiple. The pain gets worse when ever I try to do anything with my right arm, pain is also in my lymph nodes and throat. The dr. is sending me to a gastro dr., hopefully he can help me, but the waiting in pain is almost unbearable. Also shooting pain to my right back shoulder, blood test all ok. Hope you find some relief.

My problems are almost identical to yours! Have a cyst on liver..pain mid right abdomen and into my back..it feels like there is something in my throat and my lymph nodes swollen too. Blood tests came back normal but the pain is still there. .it comes and goes but im scared as they are not doing any further liver tests!!!

Did you ever find out what was wrong with you? My boyfriend is suffering with the same thing - they have told him its a possible cyst, or fatty or deformed cells - but insist this will not be causing the pain. He is waiting for his CT scan appointment to come through now, but there seems to be no urgency, and no one is really telling him much more. One doc has said its benign, another that that still needs to be confirmed. We are getting more worried by the day, and he too is in pain with no offer of relief.

If you have any more info on your case we would be grateful to hear it.

Those are all really specific questions and I don't think you need to worry about them unless you get some testing that indicates this may be the case.  You can also try asking your question on the liver disorders community.

Hey thank you very much for your replies. :) That is good to hear. Wow, there really are alot of mixed messages on the net aren't there? Some other site said that it is becoming more common but I like what you say more. :):):):) It's more positive and hopeful. Even if it happened and it being so aggressive...do you think it is possible to still treat it? Like have you ever heard of anyone being able to bounce back and go into remission with this form of it? Yes, the symptoms are the liver area pain along with the 10 mm cyst or lesion they found(which they say should be painless) sore lymph nodes, swollen up throat, swallowing gunk or drainage, alot of trouble breathing, weak limbs and fatigue even with alot of sleep. The pain in the liver area seems to be a dull ache or a shooting ache and then it hurts in my back on the opposite area as well as it reaches into the mid upper stomach area. Sweating bullets and thinking about my poor infant daughter growing up without her daddy is tearing me up just as much as it is thinking about losing everyone and everything else I love in this life.=/Can't sleep at night either. Sorry to come off as a complainer just feels good to get it out as difficult as these times are.  Ok, took your advice. We had the liver enzyme bloodwork done or the AFP test? He also recommended that we do an U.S. of the area. Do you think these things are pretty accurate/ precise in ruling out this evil beast of a most fatal disease? Yes, pain management would be great. Hoping to get some action taken on this as well. Pain is one of the things that makes it so bad i.m.h.o.

Yes, but liver cancer is very rare and these symptoms usually indicate something else.  I think more testing needs to be done to determine what is causing this and what you can do to help the pain.

Ok, will do. Thank you for this advice. Ok, may I ask what are these other symptoms of liver cancer and hepatitis? Sorry to ask to many questions just needing to know. Ok , got it on the antibiotics.None of that then. Yep,that sounds correct and it is unfortunate they found diverticulosis by accident as well as the liver cyst through a CT scan ordered for abdominal pain. :( Do you think these things in themselves could be the culprit for the liver area pain and stomach pain? My lymph nodes are all swollen up too. :( My throat feels tight and getting VERY shallow breaths. Sorry to add on just new very troublesome symptoms. Thank you so much for all of your help. I would recommend getting some blood work done to see if your liver enzymes are off.  I think it is unlikely that you have liver cancer or hepatits becuase you would most likely be having other symptoms.  I would not recommend taking a random bottle of antibiotics.  Antibiotics can cause more problems if you don't need them.  Diverticolosis is diagnosed on a colonoscopy.  Diverticulitis is diagnosed by symptoms or by a CT scan.

Hello there, and thank you very much. It's a pleasure to join. :) Yes, i've heard of that. No he didn't say whether or not it is diverticulitis. How do they find out if I have the infection in the pocket? Awhile back I did feel nauseous and get a really bad headache as well as chills. Now I just seem to be in alot of pain in my liver area where that cyst is. I'm losing it thinking it's serious like liver C or Hepatitis. :(:(:( I just don't know where to begin to rule all of these issues out. My lymph nodes are hurting alot too. I do have an almost full bottle of antibiotics that I never took. Would it be ok to start taking them and have the Doc give me more so I can get the full dosage in? I feel as if I need something and someone to help fast. It may sound crazy but I feel like I could even die if I go to sleep. Just so many weird things going on. It's mainly the pain in the liver area and out the back that has me concerned. What would you recommend that is pretty accurate to rule out liver cancer? A biopsy or no? Thank you so much. :)

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  Diverticolosis can cause pain if it turns into diverticulitis.  Did you doctor say if you have diverticulitis?
