Experiencing lower back pain and digestive troubles only during the night.

For approximately two weeks, I've been experiencing a strange array of symptoms that occurs only during the middle of the night. Around 2 or 3am every night (typically 2-4 hours after I fall asleep), I'm awoken by pain in my lower back around my kidneys. It's also accompanied by restlessness, a shaky feeling, and racing thoughts and lasts for a couple hours until I'm able to fall asleep.

The symptoms began while traveling (after about a week of a significant change in diet and increased alcohol consumption) where I first experienced the lower back pain along with constipation/straining to have a bowel movement. The straining persisted for a few days (with indigestion and loss of appetite) and I'm now back to being regular for the most part. However, at night when the pain occurs, it sometimes helps to try and have a bowel movement (though it's minimally productive).

I consulted with my doctor about this and he prescribed a combination anti-inflammatory/antacid, but it hasn't helped. It seems like it's getting better considering the pain no longer lasts through the day, appetite has improved, and bowel movements are becoming more regular and normal. Is there another problem present that has nothing to do with the constipation/digestive issues?

Thanks!
