Not to sound discouraging, but the docs said that after I had a hernia repair, I acquired not only IBS but a spastic colon as well. They put me on a couple of things like you but it made things worse for me. I eat or drink anything and immediately I have gas and a lot of it. This all started about a month after my stomach repair last July and has not stopped. It's embarrassing to say the least and I feel for you.
Let me know if they find something to stop this and I will do the same in return. I wish I could have better news for you or some ray of hope but right now they can't seem to figure out what is going on inside of me.
Do bother with the family dr anymore. Go to a gartroentrologist and get checked out for Chrons and UC. At least they will know what tests to give you to help find out what is wrong.
Good luck.
The gastroenterologist is who found the vitamin D deficiency and told me I now have IBS and a spastic colon due to my last hernia repair. I'm kind of out of options. I have had all the scopes and all the mri's ct scans and ultrasounds anyone could think of and all are good.
If your gastro dr. thinks you have ibs has he prescribed any antibiotics for you? They are usually very strong and you much stay away from any.... any type of liquor if one of them is ciprofloxacn or a generic of this. The other would probably be flagel and you would take them for 10 days.
If he has not tried this, I would really suggest you get a second opinion from another gastro dr.
Are you having any pains? Often in early stages of chrons and uc you don't have a lot of pain but a lot of noise with your stomach.
Chrons is a genetic desease and you can ask the dr. to do a gentic test for chrons.
Buy some Activated Charcoal capsules and see if it helps take care of the gas. You may need to take 5 at a time to get relief. It not only absorbs gas and odor, but it will absorb your meds. So your not suppose to take it if your on medication. You can take it with nutritional supplements though. I agree with the person above, see a Gastroenterologist and stop screwing around with the regular doctor. If the GI doc doesn't find anything, consider seeing a holistic doctor. I'm a nutritionist and I tell ALL of my patients to see both a traditional doctor and a holistic doctor. It could be a yeast problem and only a holistic doc knows how to treat that. Also, find a holistic doc that does a test called a Heidelberg Gastrogram (google it). This is difinitely a test you should eventually have...espeically if you have irritation of any kind in your stomach. Good Luck!
Thanks! I'll get some of those tablets.
I know this post is rather old. But I started having quite similar symptoms to what Zastra described. I used to be perfectly regular, once a day, nicely formed bowel movements. Although I was often gassy back then. And a couple of years ago it became that I constantly was having to go to the bathroom. I would have to go 5 times a day at least starting from when I woke up and lasting through out the afternoon. And the stools wouldn't be full diarrhea but they were soft and a lot of stool over all.
So I absolutely can't tolerate Pepto but after doing some research online I decided to try probiotics. I found that taking a culturelle in the morning and at night greatly deceased the amount of gas I had and got my overall having to go to the bathroom down to 3 a day at the most usually. But it's still completely awful to worry about when it's going to hit. I have also wondered if a lack of exercise might be contributing as I haven't been as active since I got out of school. But if you're having issues like this I would recommend trying a probiotic, though it definitely wasn't a fix all for me it has improved my situation drastically. I'm hoping that by improving my diet and increasing exercise I can go back to completely normal, siiiigh.
I appreciate your reply.. If I learn anything informative I will post it.
Thank you. I have some ideas now what to look up and talk to the Dr.about. At least knowing there are others with similar problems is a help. Rube8640
