Constant Burping (Belching) for 3 months

Hi,

I've been experiencing constant burping daily for almost 3 months now. I must burp nearly 100 times per day. It starts as soon as I wake in the morning and happens mostly upon eating or drinking (even water) but can also happen upon movement such as walking or running. Since the burping started, my stools have had a consistent yellow hue and are soft. I don't have constipation or much bloating and my appetite is strong.

I first visited by GP 3 months ago and was put on Losec for a one month period as I showed symptoms of acid reflux or GERD. During this period, I had no change in my symptoms. So after my medication ended I returned to my GP. This time he put me on a stronger medication PPI's (Protium) for yet another month. Again, my symptoms remained. At this stage my GP booked me in to see a GI specialist for both an Ultrasound and Upper Endoscopy. Both results were clear and nothing unusual showed up in my stomach, gallbladder or pancreas. The GI specialist did however put me on Motilium for 1 month but didn't tell me why.

I am now half through this course of medication and again my symptoms remain unchanged. I don't know what else to do. My GP has ran out of ideas and told me that burping is harmless and that I should try to ignore it. This is impossible as it happens so frequently that I find it hard to converse without having to stop and burp every few moments. Something has to be causing this. I would consider my diet to be good. I am young (mid 20's) and have no other known medical problems.

Hopefully someone can explain what might be causing this.

Thanks.

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME THING AND IT'S REALLY ANNOYING ME!

I have had the same thing for around 7 months now. I am desperate for a solution.

I've been put on 2 types of meds, 1 month at a time for each and these have not resolved or changed anything.

I feel the urge to burp constantly, it's almost like something is stuck in my throat but I'm not sure if this is now just irritation of constant burping or not as I can't remember if it was always there from the start.

I've fasted for 24 and 48 hours at a time and this made no difference which led me to believe it can't be food related.

I'm now going to start with a really bland diet and reintroduce foods to see if this helps at all.

I really am getting down and frustrated about the whole thing and found very few other people that reported the same, then I found this thread.

What happened Cathy!?

What meds are you taking?

Lots of different things can cause this, from chewing gum to acid reflux to foods you are eating or things you're drinking.

Acid reflux can often feel like something is caught in your throat, and finding the right treatment for you can take some trial and error. Have you seen a gastroenterologist?

I always envisaged acid reflux to feel acidy. I've not had that kind of burn ever.

My recently was given Lansoprazole.
There are a bunch of symptoms with reflux, and different kinds of it.

Burning is a very common symptom, but not everyone gets it. A friend's husband had reflux and didn't know he had it until suddenly he had damage to his esophagus and could barely swallow. He had very few symptoms until then.

There's also "silent refleux" - https://www.healthline.com/health/silent-reflux

Dysphagia - difficulty swallowing - also includes the feeling of something being stuck in your throat, and that's a symptom of reflux, but can be a symptom of other things. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dysphagia/symptoms-causes/syc-20372028

I don't know if you have it, but the medication you're taking treats it. If it's not working, it might not be reflux, or that's not a good option for you. Continue to work with your doctor.  I hope you figure it out.
All I've eaten today is a banana until dinner when I had plan pork chop & vegetables. Only fluid was green tea yet I'm still the same. I can't carry on like this :(
