Questions about 2 tests to determine gluten sensitivity

I've been reading a book called Grain Brain. The author is David Perlmutter, MD.
It's a very interesting and informative book. Based on what I've read so far in
the book, I suspect he may have a sensitivity to gluten. In the book, Dr. Perlmutter
in a chapter called Self Assessment, mentions many kinds of tests, two of which
are Cyrex array3, which is apparently the most comprehensive marker of gluten
sensitivity available and Cyrex4.  Cyrex 4 measures sensitivity to 24 "cross-reactive"
foods to which a gluten-sensitive individual may also react. What I would like to
know is can these tests be requested from general practioners or would one need
to have these tests done by a specialist and if so who could give you ( the universal
you) these tests ?  Any information about either of these tests would be appreciated.  Eve

if you want to get tested for a gluten allergy, its just a blood test (initially) and your general practitioner should be able to do it.

Hello Cnoevl21,

Thank you for responding to my comments. It's actually my husband whom
I suspect may have a gluten allergy or as Dr. Perlmutter says in his book
" Grain Brain" a gluten sensitivity. Based on what I read in his book, I think
it's a distinct possibility. I suggested to my husband that he read the chapter on gluten sensitivity and then see what he thinks. My hubby told
me he will discuss this with his family doctor at his next appointment.
Your response is much appreciated.  Eve

Hi, the above mentioned tests are not approved by FDA. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) the controlling authority for all medications and tests. As such a medical practitioner will not recommend these tests. Regards.
