What kind of worm do I have?

I went into the clinic and the doctor there quickly told me that I had pinworms, though there was no visual confirmation on his part or stool sample. The worms I have are thin, brown and usually a bit over one to an inch and a half inch usually. They come out dead and I've never seen them outside. I was told to take Pin-X which didn't seem to help much and I am unable to get a prescription for Vermox or generics because it is no longer available.
I ask this because I was told pinworms are small and white, which don't seem to meet the description of my worms. I gave a stool sample to my doctor last Monday and am unable to get back to them today (I guess the incoming snow storm to Kansas had the clinic closed today). I'm scared anxiously awaiting the results. Right now I have bloating and stomach pain, usually I have gas and lots of anal itching.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

I do agree that the description does not match that of pinworms and a stool sample and testing may be required for a definite diagnosis; since the choice of the medication may vary with the type of worm. However since the symptoms do sound like a pinwork infection, there is a good chance for this to be a pinworm infection or a double infection. At this time I would suggest waiting till the results of the stool test are known or discussing with your treating doctor if an empirical therapy would be suggested at this time.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
