I have suffered from chronic constipation and trouble passing stools all my life since I was a young child, it passed during my teen years, but returned in the last 3 years. I have tried fiber regiments, changing my diet, doculax stool softner, and miralax. The one medication that has helped somewhat is the Miralax which I do take now once daily. However, despite the Miralax I still could not pass stools without irritation, straining, pain, discomfort, and soreness. Over the last few years I developed a hemorrhoid and began using Sodium Saline Enemas because it has been the only solution that has enabled me to pass stools with the least amount of pain, discomfort, and effort. I was hoping if I didnt need to strain to pass the stools, then the hemorrhoid would go away but it has not.
I was getting by until the last 6 months. My routine would be to eat the best I could, take Miralax once daily, and then every 3-4 days I would lay down, dose with a enema, wait 4-5 minutes, and then go to the bathroom. This worked for me until recently in the last 3-4 months, I would pass stools that would be extremely bloody, which contained bright red blood, dark maroon blood clots, and it would usually be more so the stools I strained passing. I would say 50% of the time there would be this blood.
I cannot pass stools without using an enema but it is not recommended or safe to use them so frequently but I simply cannot go without one, and it is for me the worst discomfort to have to go and then not be able to so I give in and use one each time I go to the bathroom.
Im a bit embarrassed to go to the doctor and didnt want to go to a general family doctor but some sort of specialist. I honestly, need some advice on what could be causing this, as well as, advice on what to do and how to handle this entire situation, Im genuinely afraid for my health at this point, it cant be safe to shed that amount of blood every few days nor bleed that heavy from my rectum.
After dosing with an enema I get this rush of racing heart-rate, shaking, bad feeling, and anxiety. I believe that it is either something to do with the enema itself or anxiety due to the overwhelming fear, and negative association I have with going to the bathroom, the fear of pain, discomfort, and bleeding so much.
If I had the money I would have gone to a G.I. specialist a long time ago when the symptoms began. I went as far as to take a few photos with my digital camera of my stools for the doctor or anyone interested in truely helping me here so the amount of blood could be properly diagnosed and addressed. As well as the consistency of the stools.
Any advice or help would be appreciated and could save an otherwise healthy 24 year old man from a serious health issue. Thanks in advance!
