After suffering diarohea, excessive flatulence and wet bum for 3 years (I am a relatively young 36 year old) I saw my gp who referred me to a specialist. After endoscopy and swalowling some tracers they found I am not reabsorbing my bile and it is causing havoc in my lower intestines. The specialist mentioned/believes that the receptor cells in the intestines weren't being stimulated by the bile anymore. I have been prescibed colestid. It mostly works, though I still get a wet bum and colleagues and pupils (I'm a biology teacher) comment on the smell in the room. I daren't sit on a stool/chair as I leave an obvious wet patch. I've always been a chirpy positive person, but I'm now becoming depressed with it all. I'm shying away from my colleagues and keeping social interactions to a minimum. Any ideas why receptors that detect bile can suddenly not work? Are there recomended diets for people who cant reabsorb bile? Is colestid safe long term, I heard it affects vitamin K absorption? ANyone out there going through the same as me?
