Large disparity between food intake and stool volume?

When I have a BM the amount of stool in no way reflects the amount of food I've been eating.  I could have been eating all day the day before, and then the stool is extremely small. I don't have feel constipated, if anything I have that empty feeling like when you HAVEN'T eaten.

So... wheres all that food going? Am I really absorbing almost ALL of it? This has been going on for a few weeks now, and not once in that that time have I had a normal BM, and I've been eating a lot more than usual, including lots of vegetables, so my fiber intake should be fine. I suspect I might have IBS-A, because I've been alternating mild constipation and diahrrea pretty much every day. Basically I have a very small BM every other day. What gives? Oh btw, I am a 22 yr old male who recently got diagnosed with GERD.

Did you ever get an answer? I have the same thing happening where I eat normal amounts of food but my stool is smaller than normal. Been like this for about a month or so with no pain and no feeling of bloat.

Thought I should also mention, I have not been vomiting or anything of that nature... a little bit of nausea is about all.  When I got diagnosed with GERD I had a CT scan which came back clean. (LPR variant of GERD btw) My xrays showed I had a lot of gas trapped in my intestines which explained the cramps I was getting, but this is a week later, I have no cramps, and no symptoms of an overfull stomach because of poor emptying, no symptoms of an intestinal obstruction either.
