Pediatric C-Diff

My son is 4yrs old and has his second case of c-diff. He had this problem almost exactly one year ago. The doctor seems to think he did not completly get cured from the first time even though it has been a year. Is this common? Should I take him to a specialist?
To my knowledge he has not been exposed to this bacteria.

Hi lovemykidsofthree....former C Differ here too.  Coming back after a year is pretty unusual but not unheard of.  Was your son was given an antibiotic recently?  Apparently the spores can lie dormant even when we're cured, only to raise their ugly heads when the gut flora is upset by another antibiotic.  The support website IS wonderful and saved my sanity - they may even have a Ped specialist listed in your area.  Ask his doc about a "tapering" regiment this time instead of going off the flagyl/vanco cold turkey.  That seems to be the most succesful way to go.   Best of luck to your little one.

Please consult with a pediatric infectious disease doc. The strains of C. diff that seem to be around lately are causing more and more problems and they need to be addressed by a specialist. You may also find some good advice at a group called cdiffsupport.org. They keep up with 'what's new' and have a lot of good advice.
