osteomalacia/digestive issues

Hi,

For the past six or seven years i've been struggling with really excessive flatulence. I've been to see my doctor on more than one and he 's always said it was irritatable bowel, but he's never really been able to offer me any solutions to my problem. Then recently i noticed my legs were really bent. I went to see him and he agreed they had definately bowed. I had a blood test and my vitimin D levles were normal, but my calcium was low. I wonder if the two symptoms could be related. has anyone ever come across anything similar?

Have you eliminated 100% of all lactose from your diet for 2 weeks?  That's what I believe is the only way to prove that you don't have lactose intolerance.  You could also try eliminating 100% of all gluten for 2 months to see if that helps.  If you think you are deficient in something you should be tested for that.  Making comments like "i don't think someone this young should have all these health issues" are not helpful and I would ask that you would avoid these comments in the future.

It definately not lactose intolerance. I've tried elimating dairy on more than one occassion. The only thing thats ever really help was eliminating red meat and fatty foods. I've read that the main part of digestion of protein and fats is the stomach. I think it might be caused by a lack of stomach acid. I think flatulence and bloating is it main symptom of hydrchlohydria and i've read that calcium and other minerals require an acid enviroment to be digested. I think i may also be deficient in zinc. I have whit spots on my fingure nails and the coners of my lips have beeen cracked for over a year. I should point out that i'm only 23. i don't think someone this young should have all these health issues.

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  I don't think the two problems are related.  For the gas, I would reommend eliminating 100% of all lactose for 2 weeks to see if that helps.  It could also be celiac disease.
