pain in left side

I am a 59 year olf female and for the last 3 months or so have been having really bad pains in my left side just under my ribs. The pain goes through to my back. I also have erratic bowel movements, flatulence and feel as if I can't empty my bowls properly. The pain is bad when I twist round to look at something and nothing seems to improve it although it can get a little better towards the end of the day. My doctor thinks tis muscular but I am becoming increasingly concerned that thsi is not the case as I really do feel unwell. Has anyone got any suggestions? Thank you for your time

Hi,
How are you? Aside from muscular issues, this could also be due to gall bladder stones which usually presents with sudden and rapidly intensifying pain in the upper right portion or center of the abdomen just below the breastbone, back pain between the shoulder blades or pain in the right shoulder. The pain usually lasts  for several minutes to a few hours. You may benefit from additional diagnostic tests including imaging studies such as ultrasound or CT scan .Take care and do keep us posted.
