What is the frequency after most of your large intestine is removed

My 19 yr old son has to get most of his large intestine out due to Crohns disease.  He will have a bag for 3 to 5 months and then they can reattach the small to the end.  He is worried about the frequency of going to the bathroom and what will that mean for him later.

In 2004 I underwent a total colectomy for torrential diverticular bleeding - but did not require a stoma bag etc.  In response to another Medhelp patient's question, I posted my own experiences on:-

Is he having a j-pouch created after the ostomy comes out? I think there is a period of adjustment while your body adjusts.
