I forgot to mention your lack of insurance.  In order to see a specialist, next time the pain goes over the top, get thee to the ER.

Well, she should have offered a plan for getting the stones out of there, which includes a referral to a specialist and usually surgery.  Now, a specialist, they would set you up for a procedure to remove the stones, and THEY would give you something for the pain while you wait for the operation.  So, you need to go to either a kidney or gallbladder specialist (depending on which kind of stones you got).  And just in case you don't know this, do NOT say you need pain medication, rather discuss your symptoms with the specialist, how awful it is and so forth, and ask what can be done.
