Blood spurting steady stream

I got a cut on my arm and the bleeding was a steady stream of blood spurting out, not squirting to my heartbeat but just a steady stream, does anyone know if that was a vein or an artery, I always thought arhat arteries squirted to the beat of your heart and veins just oozed out but this was neither?  If anyone knows please post the answer!?!?  Thanks in advance:)

Saw the dr today and I apparently nicked the artery.  As long as I keep it covered it should continue to not bleed:)

Thanks, it isn't deep enough for stitches.  I finally got it to stop bleeding.  I put an ice pack on it and it helped.

Spurting blood may be arterial slower bleeding may be venous ..either way a trip to the ER is in order
