I know this might sound crazy, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask in case anyone has some insight.
A couple of nights ago I rolled over onto my right arm during the night. I slept in a pretty awkward position for several hours. I was lying on my stomach with my right arm stuck straight underneath my body so that the back of my hand was between my thighs and against the mattress, and the inside part of my elbow was under my chest.
It's not uncommon for me to fall asleep on a body part and wake up to a numb limb until the sensation rushes back. However, this was the worst numbness I have ever felt.
Since then I have had a dull pain on the inside part of my elbow where I must have been crushing my arm. Sometimes I also feel pain on the outside part of my shoulder. I don't notice any swelling or discoloration; it's just the internal pain.
Is there any risk of developing a blood clot in this scenario? From what I've read, most arm clots are a result of surgery, catheter, or IV. It also sounds like when a limb goes asleep it's a result of temporary nerve damage, not a lack of blood flow. However, I've never had a limb falling asleep lead to lasting pain, and I was a bit concerned due to the location of the pain in the inner elbow where most of the veins/arteries run (it's right in the spot where a phlebotomist would draw blood). So any chance this is a clot, or did I just injure the nerve?
