Fingers swollen and sore for a long time

I’m a 56 year old reasonably healthy and active male.  This summer I’ve started wake surfing.  Several weeks ago I held onto the rope a little too long while falling.  A couple of my fingers are extremely sore and swollen several weeks later.  I realize at my age it could arthritis, which I haven’t had any issues with, but would that manifest from trauma like that?  I guess I’d have thought it would come on slower.  Could it be ligament damage?  It is very painful and limits many of my normal activities like lifting, golf, mountain biking, and wake surfing.  Anything that requires a grip.

I don't know if it would be arthritis considering this occurred after an incident.  You could have ligament damage or a sprain in your fingers.  Pain and swelling are symptoms of that.  https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/did-i-sprain-my-finger#1  Does ibuprofen help?  You could ice it too. And a doctor wouldn't be a bad idea!

Hello~I would see your physician, you might have some small fractures. He/she will also be able to tell you if you have any ligament damage or if it has brought on earlier arthritis.
