More than likely, they are wanting to see what is going on with your liver, I believe that certain liver conditions can cause an elevation in the bilirubin.

Hi, Alan...they want to check your liver...elevated bilirubin indicates liver problems.Does your skin have a yellow tinge?

Structural changes in your liver and gallbladder as well as your biliary ducts can be seen on ultrasound which could be the result of elevated bilirubin. Some common ones might be obstruction of the duct by gallstones or some other process, and damage to the liver.

He or she probably wants to get a visual view of your abdomen to check for abnormalities with your liver, pancreas, etc.
