Worried about swollen hematoma post limpoma removal from rib cage- is it dangerous?

Hi,

I'm a 42 year old healthy/inshape male who had a pretty decent sized lipoma removed from my side/ rib cage.   About 5 days later, it started to swell up.  I went back to my dermatologist, and she said I have a hematoma- usually they resolve themselves. Two days later, it's still big, and i have pain in my left side/chest area.  The stitches are set to be removed tomorrow- But- it looks as if it's (the hematoma) is even bigger than before- swollen like a baloon, not blue.   Should i chill and wait til tomorrow- is this dangerous at all?

thank you!

Thank you so much for the response.  When they removed the stitches, they did use a syringe to drain part of it.  But, even after two days of wearing a pressure bandage, it's still there, although I think it might have gone down a bit.  I'm supposed to go back in tomorrow to the dermatologist who did the procedure- and I'm hoping they will drain more off.  I also started a round of antibiotics,omnicef- thanks again.

Trust your doctors. Swelling is common following such a procedure. If there is blood that has clotted, the word "usually" says it all. Sometimes the clot remains under the skin and has to be surgically removed. Just politely bring this to your surgeon's attention. It is extremely unlikely to be "dangerous" in the sense of being life-threatening. On the other hand never hesitate to go back to a physician immediately if you have any questions regarding the outcome of a procedure.

It's only a problem if it becomes hot, red, itchy like it's infected.  Or if it presses so hard on nerves or circulation that you need relief.
