Personally, I would not recommend having a mammogram.
I have had a couple, and I am allergic to the solution that the machine is cleaned with and got a severe rash that had to be treated with cortisone cream. It also presses down on the tissues and exposes you to a small amount of radiation.
There is a new way of examining the breasts now which is more accurate, and it is through photographic ultra sound. Unfortunately, it is not available everywhere.
I have now twice refused a routine mammogram on my breasts and hope that my town will get the new equipment soon. This is much safter that the traditional mammograms. Of course, if I detect some abnormality or lumps in my breasts then I would have to use what is available or find out if there is a hospital near by with the new equipment.
There is no point in exposing oneself to doses of radiation and having your breast tissue squashed unless absolutely necessary. Some women find it does hurt, it depends on the size and thickness of the breast. It is certainly uncomfortable.
If you eat a good healthy diet with fruit and veg and no processed foods, biscuits, crisps, chocolate, pop, etc. and take evening primose oil, and other avoid all simple carbohydrates, I found it helped my PMS symptoms a lot.
Best wishes
Doc said it was hormonal. Get sore lots also. Think it happens ovulating also. Keep track of your cycle. 14 days after start of period you ovulate. You could get a mammogram, it doesn't hurt.
It is quite normal to have tender breasts before a menstrual cycle (period).
This is linked to the hormones.
If you feel concerned about it, I suggest you make an appointment with your doctor to discuss the matter. He would be able to check your hormone levels by a blood test.
You can also try evening primrose oil capsules for the premenstrual symptoms you are experiencing and see if that helps.
I have suffered with the same so understand how you feel.
Best wishes.
