How to know if a lump is something to worry about???

About a month ago I felt a lump deep inside my back (between the shoulder blades and felt like it was just right above my spine).  It was tender if I pushed on it trying to feel it better, but not otherwise.  Over the last month or two, it has moved closer to the surface of my skin where it is very easy to feel now and can even be seen as a lump about the size of a marble.  As of the last few days, the skin has started to turn a little purple as the lump has moved closer but is still only slightly tender and mainly only if I try to mess with it (been researching and a lot of questions are about whether it can be moved around.  So pushing around on it does make it tender).

In my research, I have not found any mention of cysts that are noticed deeper in the body that move to the surface so I have no idea if this is normal or something to be worried about.

Hello~I would see either your PCP or a dermatologist, possibly all your pushing and prodding has bruised it or maybe caused a minor infection, the doctor might want to take a biopsy of it, or maybe will just look at it and then tell you what to do next, if anything. In the mean time, STOP playing with it.
