quarter size lump on forehead

My son is 13 now and has a hard bony non-painful bump on his forehead.  He has had it since he was little.  The doctor doesn't seem to think its anything but I have always worried about it.  What would be the correct test to see what it is? A general x-ray or CT?   He was a head-banger as a toddler,

Thank you.  I will ask the doctor again about it when he goes.

The answer is "neither". Both are unnecessary exposures to radiation.

An MRI would provide as definitive view.

If this is disturbing from a cosmetic standpoint a consult with a plastic surgeon is in order.

If he was a "headbanger" I suspect it is simply as hardened mass of blood which could be identified by a simple needle biopsy.
