Sudden rapid bleed in fiance

My fiance, and the father of my baby girl recently lost his 3 yr battle with end stage liver disease. He had Hep C which was from working in health care, and a history of alcohol abuse, which he had quit over three yrs ago. The end stage symtoms began with him feeling ill for a few days, and then suddenly vomitting a massive amount of blood. This occurred about 7 or 8 times over the past few years, all with the same warning signs. He would complain of a stomach ache and just want to sleep, then eventually vomit blood. He only had one occurance of rectal bleeding, but it was significant. He had bandings each time and blood transfusions. The past year and a half he began getting acites with his stomach filling up with fluid. The last 6 mo. of hius life it was persistant with no GI blleds but having to have his stomach drained just about twice a month. He was on Nadolol for the bleeding and a low sodiom diet. He was in the process of beinf evaluated for a transplant. He  was 46 AND HAD NO OTHER HEALTH ISSUES. hE LOST A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WEIGHT OVER THE LAST 6 MO. ALL of his muscle tone had depleted. He had just had his throst checked with a scope and it was fine the dr said. He was feeling pretty good the last few days, alert, active, and even cooking and cleaning. Looking forward to the fight ahead. In good sprits, etc. That week he had been off his BP med due to the Dr. failing to call it in. I took the baby out shopping one night. He was fine when I left. Two hours later I came home and he complained his stomach hurt, and asked for a glass of ice water which he drank all the time. Before I could even set the bags down, he was running for the bathroom, where he proceeded to vomit a massive amount of blood. It was like a crime scene. My question is...why no warning signs this time? Is it possible he had a sudden rupture from missing his BP meds? He was alert all the way to the hosp in the ambulance and the dr said he was alert and able to answer questions upon arrival at the er. He went under for the usual procedure and never came out. What was different about this bleed that he was fine this time and not ill for 2 days?? What the hell happened? Was it the BP meds he missed?

I know it's unfair and hurts so much.  I watched my son fight for years, for just one more day with his two little boys and wife, only to lose.  Then I watched my grandson (my deceased son's oldest boy) endure the same, removal of his colon, 38 surgeries by the age of 16 then a 5 organ transplant, he was a typical teenager with plans and dreams for his future, we lost him 1 1/2 years ago at the age of 18. I didn't get to say good-bye to either of them and this will haunt me forever, we deserved that much!  I know your pain and anger, it is so unfair, and the pain is unbearable.  I do think even though we know what the outcome will be, in our hearts we keep that hope.  Big hugs to you and your daughter.

This just isn't fair tho...He was really fighting. He was watching his favorite show and told me not to keep the baby out too late. I just can't believe he never got to say goodbye. It *****. I knew he was sick. I knew it was deadly. I knew it was advanced. I just thought I knew when h/if he was gonna go. Maybe I was in denial. Maybe he was too...Soo sad :( He was my life!!

I doubt the BP meds had anything at all to do with it.  I think he just reached the end of it and the bleed happened too quickly for warnings to appear. People who are fighting a disease like this will often "rebound" right before the end. I am so sorry for all of you, it had to be a terrible thing to go thru. I do wish you and your daughter all the best, it sounds like he fought hard to not leave the two of you.  Take care.
