Acute Retroviral Syndrome has symptoms of a flu-like sickness usually 2 to 4 weeks following initial infection.
The symptoms can present as fever which is over 100˚F, sore throat, swollen glands in the neck, armpits and groin, muscle and joint pains, rash and/or night sweats. Symptoms that are less common include weight loss, diarrhea, nausea, headache, and, very rarely, oral thrush (yeast infection in the mouth.
The symptoms usually last 3 to 14 days and go away on their own.
The symptoms of ARS and that of other illnesses can be the same too.
Because your symptoms came on very quickly, makes me wonder you if in fact you have glandular fever. Anyone can get glandular fever by kissing a carrier. This is a virus and needs to run its course.
If you do find that your throat starts to close up and you have difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately. My son had mono and was extremely ill had difficulty breathing and his throat was covered with white plaques. Luckily he did not need a tracheotomy, but I do know of another young man who had mono about the same time as my son and he had to have it done to help him to breathe.
Even after the mono infection has cleared up, you will feel wek and unwell for quite some time afterwards and you may need a tonic to give you a boost to good health.
Hope this helps to allay your fears re ARS.
You can always speak with your own doctor with regard to your worries and concerns.
Did you have a blood test to check for mononucleosis? You do not need to answer that. It is also referred to as "mono", glandular fever, kissing disease as well as a few other names.
Would it be possible to have someone respond to my questions in the original post? That would be great.
Thanks so much for the fast reply. But could someone be more specific regarding my questions? It would be extremely helpful, thanks.
There's no reason for concern over anything you mention
