Are these HIV symptoms?

Two weeks ago today, I had sex with another man, where I for a brief moment had unprotected sex. Earlier this week, I had a fever/chills/night sweats, which went away for two full days but then came back (i'm not sure if these are symptoms of HIV or because I didn't get enough rest and decided to go to work the day after my first fever (I took dayquil that day). I went in to get tested today and they said that not only will I have to wait 5 to 7 days to get my results from the test I got today, but I will need to come back in 3 months to get a more accurate result. I know it was a stupid thing for me to do but I don't know how I am going to wait these three months without going crazy.

My questions are:

Is it normal to get two separate fevers in a week
How do I deal with this anxiety for 3 months without losing my mind

Well if he didn't ejaculate, and you're sure he didn't, it makes almost all the difference. When you get your results back, ask what they tested. If they say just antibodies, ask for one that checks both antigens and antibodies.

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure what generation the test was. The unprotected part was probably a couple minutes (no he didn't ejaculate during that time)

Definitely sorry to hear about this,  I recently went through the same thing you are. I actually just passed my 14 week mark and my test came back negative so at least now I know.  How brief was the moment of unprotected sex? Did he ejaculate any during this time? Now maybe these can sometimes be linked  to HIV, but you also have to take into account other factors too.  It's that time of the year where people just feel bad.  I actually have been having those exact same symptoms for about a week now. Do you know what kind of test you got? Because if it was a 4th generation, the test normally picks up 80%-90% if infections after 2 weeks, and is conclusive after 4 weeks. My guess is that if you told your doctor you had such a recent exposure, he would have offered this test. And also, I completely get the anxiety part that comes with it too.  My life has been demolished since the night I was assaulted and thought I got HIV.  You just gotta be realistic, and optimistic.  Stay (mentally) positive and it'll go a long way. If this test you took wasn't a 4th generation/duo/combo, then after you get the results back, ask if you can get one.  If they say no, then find somewhere that will offer you one.
