Hi,
3 days ago I went out drinking with some friends and we all went to a 'massage parlor'. I insisted on staying out of it and just waiting for them outside, but they insisted on it and even bought me my own girl. In an alcohol-induced lapse of judgement, I agreed. Now I deeply regret it and have fears that I may have been exposed to HIV and I have since went to an ER and gotten myself on a course of PEP. I still have several concerns and questions.
Details of my possible HIV exposure
As I mentioned earlier I was not too enthusiastic about this but anyway, she performed protected oral sex on me at first, then she got on top and in less than 2-3 minutes I went flaccid, then she got off and went down on me again still with the condom on, once I got hard again she got back on top and after 2-3 minutes I got flaccid again. She got off me again and this time she took off the condom and went down on me unprotected and she told me not to orgasm in her mouth as she had 2 mouth ulcers. After about 3-5 minutes of this, I still couldn't get excited and just told her it was okay and ended it, went to the provided shower room cleaned myself up and got out.
TL:DR I had roughly 5-6 minutes of protected vaginal sex, 15 minutes of protected oral sex and 5 minutes of unprotected oral sex with a sex worker who had 2 mouth ulcers. Went flaccid in her twice, but condom did not once slip off; it only came off when she took it off. Did not orgasm.
Details of my PEP course.
I felt terrible about what I did and got scared, I had sex with her on Thursday night, and on Saturday morning, went to an ER and told the doctor there what happened and was prescribed a PEP course approximately 38 hours after my possible HIV exposure.
My PEP course consists of 150/300mg of Lamivudine/Zidovudine (Zovilam) and 400mg/100mg of Lopinavir/Ritonavir (Kaletra) taken every 12 hours for 30 days. I have just taken my third dosage.
My concerns and questions:
1. The doctor in the ER told me that my risk of HIV infection is extremely low, but if I wanted to be safe I could agree to a PEP course, which I did. She also told me there were some side effects. My question is how low was my risk in terms of percentages or numbers? Like 1 in 10000?
2. I read a bit on the side effects of PEP. It mentions diarrhea, nausea, vomitting, fatigue and prolonged headaches as side effects. After my first dosage, I took a nap and when I woke up I felt slightly feverish, after walking around a bit, I felt the sudden urge to vomit, and went to the toilet and vomited water. About 10 minutes after this, the slight feverish feeling subsided. On top of this, I also feel a lack of appetite. Are these side effects of PEP?
3. How long does it take for PEP side effects to start taking place? I have already started to have mild diarrhea, vomitted once, mild fatigue and nausea (uneasy feeling in my stomach), on top of this I also had a slight feverish sensation that subsided once I vomited, and a lack of appetite. Is it normal for these side effects to affect me so quickly since I have only taken 3 of my 60 doses of PEP?
Thanks to whoever took the time to read my post and thanks to anyone who answers it.
