Condom broke; no ejaculation; help!!!

Performed brief unprotected oral sex on my boyfriend and then had condom protected vaginal intercourse. Midway through we changed condoms. He pulled out, pulled the (second) condom off and ejaculated outside of me. I later found the condom and it had a split in the tip. I am so worried about my risk of HIV. I have never, ever had a condom break in over 25+  years of using them. I am the poster child for safe sex. Could someone please respond and let me know about my risk in this situation? His status is unknown. He has not been tested in a long time. He was unaware that the condom had split (or said he was unaware). He thought it could have ripped when he pulled it off. Please help!!  I keep reading that A condom breaking is the same as "unprotected sex". Do you think this instance requires testing?

I do. I plan to have the pcrrna test tomorrow (12 days post exposure). Won't know results for another week probably. I will let you know either way.  I appreciate your help very much!

Thank you again. I will check out the link you sent me. The hundreds of stories about condoms breaking? Did many of those individuals end up positive? I plan to test, but from what I have seen of responses from Dr. Hands field and Dr. Hook, a single one time exposure poses a small risk. Even if the person was hiv positive. 1/1000 male to female? Right? I'm not saying it's not possible, but given my partners status is unknown... And he did not ejaculate, it seems my risk would be slightly lower?

Unfortunately, we don't usually hear back from people who have tested positive, so I can't give you any numbers. Both Drs. Handsfield and Hook are well known HIV Specialists here in Seattle, and both tell us that a single, one time exposure poses a small risk. But please bear in mind they said "small risk" NOT "ZERO RISK." While their learned words will give you SOME comfort, the bottom line is that a risk is a risk. Please continue with your plans to test.

I have searched and searched and cannot find much info on the number of cases of hiv transmission on a condom break with vaginal intercourse without ejaculation. The few things I have found say that hiv is rarely transmitted when a condom break occurs. Do you know where I could look to get more information? I just need some reassurance to level of risk so don't go nuts waiting to be tested,

If you have an HIV Clinic where you live, or within a reasonable driving distance, they are usually staffed by counselors. Try contacting them first. If they can't help, try this link.

If that doesn't connect you with someone, let me know.

I don't want to give you false hope, and I still believe you should test, but because condoms fail in a pretty spectacular way, I think it MAY be very likely your partner pulled the condom off by the tip which is why there was only a "split." I've heard literally hundreds of failed condom stories and they ALL say the "fail" was total........nothing left. The PCR DNA test is a good idea. Please know they are expensive. Keep in touch.

We changed part way through because he slipped out of me and bumped my butt...so I didn't want to risk a UTI. I think he did pull it off by the tip...he pulled it off very quickly.  I figured if it had broken inside me, that the entire head of the penis would have poked out, but of course the tear was small and it appeared to be intact when he took it off...but the lighting was low, so no way to know for sure. I am going to have a PCR rna test done. I can't wait a month for testing...I will go crazy.  I thought with the oral sex at the beginning (precum would be neutralized?) and no ejaculation, I didn't think it was extremely high risk. That's why I didn't seek PEP.  I certainly hope I didn't make the worst decision of my life...  I so appreciate your prompt reply.

Why did you change condoms midway through? Did you also check the first condom?
Usually when a condom fails, it doesn't just split at the tip, it pretty much explodes and there's not much left except the band at the base of the penis. It's POSSIBLE when he took it off, he pulled it by the tip and caused the split, but since he isn't sure, that leaves you between a rock and a hard spot because it is true that a broken condom is the same as unprotected sex.
If the condom WAS split inside you, even if he ejaculated outside of you, there could have been pre-cum which also carries the virus.
Since it is always better to be safe than sorry, I would advise you test 28 days post this exposure with a 4th generation DUO test. Follow the guidelines of your doctor or clinic for a follow up confirmatory test.
I wish you the very best

Sorry...I posted as a separate answer and I realized I should have commented on your response instead.
PCR RNA results were negative. Yay! Just wanted to let you know. Thanks again for the support.
