what you need to understand is that this is not a psychological counseling service.  we are here to judge your risk and recommend whether or not someone needs testing.  we cannot spend our time babysitting ppl who DO NOT HAVE A RISK ! ! ! ! !
there are other forums here at medhelp that you can go to for support of your anxiety.  this is NOT the forum for that.

now move along.

hi lizzie lou,

thank you very much for your response..

i am feeling very much happy by seeing your post.. but there is some fear in me regarding this because i heard some cases of getting HIV in this way..

i am 25 years old and from INDIA..

here some rumours doing rounds like some people got HIV in a hostel because the cook himself has HIV and his blood mixed with the food and juices that are supplied to the boys in the hostel..

like this many more things people are talking about.. so i cant able to live my life happily..

i found this similar post on the expert forum...hope this helps alleviate your fears.
here is the reply from dr. hook:

No one has ever gotten HIV by ingesting contaminated food, you will not be the first.  If there was HIV on your food (which I find incredibly unlikely for a number of reasons), the mouth is a hostile environment where the virus dies quickly.  Once the virus gets to the high acid environment of the stomach, that would kill any virus that remains.

There is no medical reason for testing.

You didn't have a risk and didn't need testing. If you want to know what kind of test was done go back and ask. It doesn't matter in your situation.

Hi,

I've never had joint aches, and now i do. I never suffered from night sweats, and I've had them. I never had rash on my chest, but somehow now I have it. Maybe I have had them, but never paid attention to it.

when I got a sore throat and saw my tongue was white, i was scared to hell. But then when I calmed down i said to myself: "You have those things now because you pay attention to them. You're a smoken, of course you will have a white coating on your tongue. The joint ache is so mild, that under normal circumstances ou would not feel them. The rash on your chest is probably acne, which you've head all your life on your back. You're sweating at night cause you're stressed and cover yourself too deep in the warm blankets. If you never read about ARS symtoms you would have never been stressed about it. But because you've read about it, you connect everything that goes on in your body to HIV."

to keep it short: your symptoms in no way tell you that you have HIV, they're too general for that. And from your exposure one can say that those symptoms have no connection to hiv whatsoever, cause you ran no risk:) You're in a certain negative mindset at the moment, and you should really try to get over that. It's hard to get out of a negative spiral, but it's possible. Just relax and look at the symptoms rationally. You had no risk...and if you are worried about your health, then the last thing you should be worried about is HIV.

Hope this helped:)

if you think you have thrush, see a doctor.  it is NOT hiv related.

from what you have described...you do not have a hiv concern.

fear is not fact ! ! !

Hey Teak,

guess you're right about that. Didn't cross my mind that people in some places have to pay for the tests. Here there are free clinics, or otherwise it's covered by your health insurance. So I didn't have to pay, and assumed it was everywhere like that:(

Those of you that tell people to take a test when they have no risk at all need to pay for those tests and deal with the anxiety issues it causes when they have to wait for their test results. Don't advise people to test when they have not had a risk.

Don 't worry, you had no risk. Once blood leaves the body, the hiv virus won't last for too long (i've heard it can survive some minutes, but not longer than that).

2 days after the incident is too earlt to develop symptoms for people that have had a risky encounter. You didn't have any risk, and your symptoms came too early to be connected to HIV anyways.

But let's just narrow it down.
1. His blood came into your drink in enough quantity to be infectious
2. the virus survived in the drink
3. You finished your drink, and possibly infected blood would have found an opening to your bloodstream, before it was destoyed by the acids in your stomach

All three aspects are very LOW risk. combine them together, it would mean there had to be perfect circumstances for the HIV virus to infect you. Besides that, the person who made the drink for you had to be HIV +.  There is absolutely no way you could have gotten infected this way. Especially when the symptoms came 2 days after the incident. Those symptoms that came had nothing to do with HIV.

You are worried, and that is understandable. A lot of people here (including me) are worried to death because of symptoms they get, even though the never ran any real risk. Once you get into your mind that you might be infected, it's hard to get it out of your head again. You will link everything that goes on in your body with HIV. But remember: your symptoms can have thousands of other causes, all which are more likely that HIV.

Calm down, don't worry. Take a test in 2 weeks (at the 6 week marker). And I'm not saying you should take the test because you ran a risk. I'm saying it so you can calm down after you get a negative!

Take care!:)

Harry,

you seem a bit afraid...what kind of risk did you have? If you had no risk, then no symptom can ever be related to ARS.

From what I've heard they generally show up at once. It stikes you like a flu, so you get many things at once.

Not sure how it is when you get a sore throat, 3 days later a fever, then 5 days later muscle pain though
