HIV Scare

Hello Dr - I asked my first question on this forum back in 2005 after a slew of symptoms led me to believe that I had contracted the HIV VIRUS, and after 3 months and finally being tested, I was negative - Now 11 Years later, I think my risky behavior has finally led me to contract this horrible disease :-(

18 Days ago, I was intimate with this 46 year old female in my car - No sex, but just grinding, kissing and during the heat of passion, she reached down, fingered herself and then fed her vaginal fluids into my mouth as I sucked her fingers dry of the fluids - She did this 3 times as this was my first experience with a woman doing this, but in the heat of passion, I went with it.

Now 18 Days later, I have what I thought was an extreme ingrown hair because puss and blood was coming out of it, I have come to the conclusion that it is only part of what seems to be an enlarged lymph node (the size of a golf ball) - that's my assessment -

There has been no fevers, no night sweats, no thrush, but what I perceive to be minor joint pains since this exposure has seemed to exist since exposure. I am deeply worried and concerned that this woman fed me her vaginal fluids maliciously as to infect me with HIV :-(

She is 46 years old and has grown kids, and claims to have been with 4 men in her life. I just don't know.

I know only an HIV will confirm my status, but until the 6-week time frame gets here, I wanted to get your opinion.

Thanks

The mouth is a very hostile place for HIV. The saliva has many enzymes and bacteria that nulls HIV. furthermore, the mucous membrane in the mouth is thicker that which lines your urethra.Hiv is a very hard virus to transmit. It needs very specific conditions to infect. Bodily fluids are not infectious once outside its host, that's why infection happens inside the body, not outside.

Now combine all these facts I've given you and see. You really do not have a hiv concern.

I don't know if there is a technical term for this particular sexual act, but the fact remains that it is essentially oral sex, virtually the same as if you'd performed cunnilingus.

Oral sex is not a risk for HIV. There are bacteria and enzymes in human saliva which render the virus inactive. (Unable to infect) Also, during the time she fingered herself and brought her fingers to your mouth, any virus present would have been exposed to air which would also render it inactive.

Oral sex CAN be a risk for other STD's and I would urge you to have an STD panel done. You can obtain further information about STD's by posting to our STD Forum.

You do not have HIV.

I hope not - Thanks - You've somewhat eased my mind
Hello Ruby - I am still only 20 days in since my last at risk exposure as mentioned in the question above, however I just had a complete physical yesterday (08/14) which also included an HIV Test (4th generation) which at 19 days, as I have read it probably still too early to detect HIV whereas as a 28-day test will be conclusive on 99.9% of individuals, so while I wait yet another week, I am still exploring HIV and its method of transmission, and it lists (Mucous Membrane) which includes the mouth as a possible entry point, so please explain to me how my particular exposure doesn't give me cause for concern since she basically fed her vaginal fluids to me after fingering herself as I also read that HIV can live for a couple of minutes when exposed to air, when her actions only took her 5-10 seconds to finger herself and then into my mouth......Please elaborate a little more so that I fully understand why I shouldn't be worried.

Thanks
