Hiv test posi, tested positive for mono as well

Hello, I went and got blood work cause of symptoms, and tested positive for mono we did the full HIV test and the rapid cane back negative, the Ag/ab posi, and immunoassay enzyme neg, doctor didn’t have definitive answer said possible false positive and infectious disease would call me.... is it possible I have hiv?!

The most likely scenario is that you got a false positive.  What was your risk for HIV?

In this circumstance, the correct course of action (if you indeed had a risk at all) is to run a confirmatory test - a Western blot - to rule out infection.

Do I have to go back in for western blot or will they run it again? The doctor did say they’re running more tests and they’d tell me by July 3rd they never called... I’ve had symptoms like mono, just I don’t sleep 16 hours a day like everyone else with mono, yes a little fatigued but nothing crazy like everyone else has explained

I have no way of knowing how their lab would carry out additional testing.  You'd have to call them.

Again, what was your risk? If you didn't have a risk, you definitely had a false positive.

I’ve been sleeping with a girl on and off, and never used condoms? We both get tested pretty often, I got tested end of March beginning of April?

OK, legit risk, *if* she is HIV-positive.  Continue working with your doc to get a firm answer, but with two additional negative tests, it is HIGHLY likely that the one was false positive.  Tests almost NEVER, and I mean less than 0.01% chance - give a false negative.  They do give false positives due to their high sensitivity.

I had to call the ER myself they said infectious disease left a note but never called me LOL (so professional) the note said most likely false positive but recommended to retest (obviously)

The Original ER doctor said they ran tests on the original sample and all came back negative after initial screening, im a bit irritated infectious disease didn’t bother to call me themselves... however they did say strong consideration false positive, however want me to retest just Incase (obviously) I only have VA health insurance so I guess this is what happens with the nations best fighting forces haha
