PCR Test

Hi all,

After a possible risk exposure on 5 December, I went for a PCR DNA test on 18 December. These are the results:

_________________________________________________________________________________

Medhod : HIV-1 Proviral DNA Polymerase Chain Reaction (Roche Amplicor HIV-1 DNA Test, v 1.5)
Assay Type: Qualitative

Performance Characteristics:
a. Analytical Sensitivity: 10 copies/reaction or 80 copies/ml blood (at >=95% CI)
b. Analytical Specificity: No cross reactivity was seen with BKV, CMV, HBV, HSV, VZV and T.gondii
c. Clinical Sensitivity: 100% (18/18)
d. Clinical Specificity: 100% (36/36)
e. Subtype Inclusivity: The primer set used for this test has been optimized to yield equivalent amplification efficiencies for Group M subtypes of HIV-1

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Are these results conclusive that I'm negative? tHank you in advance.

Had to call them up for an appointment. They take blood samples and delivered to a lab to run tests. Cost 600sgd. Some websites mentioned that PCR is able to detect HIV virus even within 72 hrs of exposure. Wasnt how reliable that was but the doc told me it was very very accurate. I might go for another test after 3 months.

You didn't have a risk and PCR DNA tests are not approved diagnostic tests.

PCR is not a test recommended for primary screening. If your condom remained intact untiil the end of intercourse, you are safe. If she unrolled if for you, it make no difference, also sleeping for sometime without washing also has nothing to do with HIV transmission. In my opinion, you were never at  risk.

Hi panther77, thanx for your response. I came across this website (http://www.hiv.sg/) and I ordered a pcr dna test. I read the report again earlier and the test was conducted on 19 December, 14 days after the exposure.

Regarding my exposure, i had a  brief sex episode with a csw on 5 December and was protected. I remember i was half drunk and after sex, she removed the condom for me. I am sure it did not break. What worries me was I slept for a couple of hours without washing up myself after that.

I came to singapore and had blood samples drawn on 18 December. I just got my results. Thank you
