How Long The Hiv Virus Can Stay Infectious Outside The Body

I Search the medhelp site on How Long The Hiv Virus Can Stay Infectious Outside The Body. Some says a few seconds, some says a few nano seconds. I wants to know which one is right?
I think if nano secnods is right, thats mean hiv just can not infect outside body once exposed to air,and lots of people will not  be  afraid of hiv any more.

thanks for your answer.you say that Answers vary from a few minutes to a few seconds, and Once outside the host or exposed to air the hiv virus is no longer infectious.
is that time the hiv virus can survive or maintain infectious once exposed to air?
i think they are two different concepts.
i think people do not care how long the hiv virus can survive  once exposed to air.just care  how long it can maintain infectious once exposed to air

There is no precise time. Answers vary from a few minutes to a few seconds. Once outside the host or exposed to air the hiv virus is no longer infectious. That is why the mechanism of hiv transmission is very "intimate" during penetrative sex or iv sharing in drug use. The virus "lives longer" in a vaccum eg. Syringe because it is not exposed to air directly.
