Possible HIV

I’ll try to be thorough- 41 y/o straight male I was in the hospital about 4 months ago from a near fatal upper GI bleed. I ended up having a transfusion. Since then I just haven’t felt the same. Lots of fatigue and skin irritation. No fever. I did lose about 12lbs because of the bleed but no additional weight loss since. I’ve had only 2 sexual partners- my wife of 15 years and a one night stand with female escort about 17-18 years ago when I was 24ish- condom was used and if memory serves me correct did not break and was used correctly. Never got tested. My wife is clean. I know the odds of going 17-18 years not seeing any symptoms from that encounter is pry near impossible. I do worry about the blood transfusion. What are the chances between these two events I could be HIV positive. I do deal with medical anxiety.

Sorry you've been feeling poorly. Talk to your doctor about that.  Your one time sex almost two decades ago with condom shouldn't worry you. Nor sex with your long time partner, your wife.  The hospital transfusion also shouldn't worry you at this point in history.   Can HIV be transmitted via a blood transfusion?  Yes.  But again, this is extroidinarily rare in today's world. People are screened, blood is screened, steps are taken to make sure this doesn't happen.  There is zero reason to believe you had a transmission.  If you have health anxiety, do you see anyone for this? Exposure therapy is really helpful for intrusive thoughts of anxiety, so I've read.

His wife was tested in May, so it is just his anxiety adding events that are not relevant.
AnxiousNoMore, he had a blood transfusion 4 months ago which I believe is his primary concern.
You're probably right.

If a condom fails it rips down the seam so that didn't happen or you both would have noticed it. 40 years ago you might have gotten hiv from a blood transfusion, but not today - hospitals and the blood supply system aren't that dumb because lawsuits would be crippling to them.
Move on back to your happy life.
