Questions About HIV

I had protected anal sex 3 days ago with a guy who claims to be clean. The following day I went to the doctor and told him that the guy gave a blowjob without me having a condom on my penis. I'm so worried about HIV that I asked the doctor for PEP and he gave me Atripla for 30 days. I'm so scared! I keep reading that it's a low risk almost zero to get HIV from getting a blow job. Is this still true?

You had protected anal sex and as long as the condom did not fail, you had NO RISK for HIV.

The oral sex was NOT a risk for HIV but was a risk for other STD's , which is all you needed to be tested for.

That you "insisted" to be put on PEP was an overreaction on your part and the doctor should have counseled you that is was unnecessary.
Go ahead and finish the PEP protocol but know that you don't need any further testing for HIV.

Thank you so much for somewhat putting my mind at ease!

The anal sex was protected. I made sure of it.

The doctor I went to wasn't even my actual doctor. I recently moved to Los Angeles, CA from another State and have no doctor at all here. I went to whatever doctor I could find because I was in a rush and felt the clock ticking of the 72 hour timeframe. The doctor I went to didn't even fully write my prescription for Atripla. He only wrote the name of it and how long I should have it for (4 weeks.) I went to 3 pharmacies to have it filled. Had a breakdown at one because I couldn't wait another day. I needed it. Until one of the men working there said "Oh this is a once a day pill anyway. Here" and filled it for me.

I also have asthma and the doctor wrote me a prescription for an inhaler but didn't write it correctly so they couldn't fill that one at all. But anyway.....

I've been googling  and seeing that oral sex pose no risk for HIV but to put my mind at ease I want to take the Atripla for 30 days for peace of mind and also because I paid for it (broke college student.).

I know I'm at risk for other STD's that I'm going to test for.

Do you think I need to test for HIV at 3 months? Do you believe that the results will be negative? I've tested for STD's many months before this and tested negative for HIV and no, I haven't had any partners since my last testing.

There was no blood on my penis at all from the guy who gave me oral either or anything.

The only side effects I get from Atripla are really just dizziness and lightheaded.

You had PROTECTED ANAL SEX.............NO RISK.

You did NOT need to take the Atripla and personally I would ask my doctor why he put me on it.

You had NO RISK for HIV from the oral sex as there are bacteria and enzymes in saliva that render the virus inactive.

Oral sex DOES pose a risk for other STD's and you may want to discuss testing for those with your doctor.
