Funny you mentoned PEP i was just looking at it. but it's almost midnight now and i'm tempted to go to the hospital to get in-depth help on my situation, i've got a Physics presentaion tomorrow but i think this is more urgent.
you've been really helpful and can't thank you enough! (p.s. i live in England)
is there anything else i should know or do apart from learning my lesson?
Finally, testing tomorrow would be pointless since it takes some time from infection starts until it can be detected by an HIV test. How long depends on the type of test. A DUO test at 4 wks is very reliable, but you might consider following it up with another test after 3 months to be sure (but this would be mostly for peace of mind, since any residual risk would be theoretical). However, testing tomorrow is too early. If you want to do something now, PEP is the only option.

If it is only a few hours since the encounter, you might consider getting PEP. This is medication you can take after an unsafe encounter, which further lowers the risk of contracting HIV. It has to be taken within 72 hours of the encounter but preferably within 24 hours and as soon as possible. This treatment would be administered by an infectious disease specialist. I don't know where in the world you are, but you should definitely consider getting this treatment.
It is not the length for which he was treated that counts, but whether full virtal suppression was achieved. An infectious disease specialist would consider this in his evaluation of whether PEP should be used.
Again, I believe the risk is low - but I think you should know all options for reducing the risk further.
i didn't know until afterwards, he told me about 10 minutes after i told him to stop having sex with me and that i was feeling a bit "not ready yet". if i knew, i would've not had sex with him. I'm 17
wow...unbelievable ! ! !
are you over the age of 16? if so...then you KNEW that hiv is transmitted through unprotected sex. still...you chose to have unprotected anal sex with someone who is hiv positive? ? ?
Thats made me feel much better but i'm going to go get tested tomorrow.
but i know he has been on medication for over 10 years, would that make a difference?
and since it's a recent event (couple hours ago) should i go and have a shower, i'm worried it might damaged my skin or i might damage my anus and have it go inside and infect me since there's still saliva i presume
Of course the risk is lower than if you had full intercourse with ejaculation. Receptive anal sex carries a risk of around 1,5%. How much lower the risk would be in your case is hard to quantify, as there are no studies.
In your case your partner was HIV+ but also on HIV treatment. HIV treatment greatly lowers the risk of transmission, at least in the cases where full HIV suppression is achieved. There are case reports of transmission happening anyway, which is why it is not recommended as a prevention strategy. But it is safe to say that the risk is many times lower than for an untreated individual.
So in summary you did run a risk and I would recommend you get tested. But the risk from one such encounter, especially taking all factors into account, is quite low, so try not to worry - you most likely are not infected.
