Exposed to numerous STD's = Higher risk for HIV?

I've read that exposure to someone who has HIV but also has another STD (HSV-2, chlamidya, etc) puts the other individual involved at risk for contracting HIV

Does this hold true for protected encounters, or only for those that are unprotected?
I'm just curious

If this is considered me posting in relation to my previous questions, just ignore it

Sorry I just re-read teak's response to gooberhead, I thought he was responding to me
So having sex with someone with HIV + other STD's does NOT put the other person at higher risk if there is a condom?

I believe that the increased risk for contracting HIV when you have HSV-2 is that the sores associated with HSV increase the opportunities for the HIV virus to enter your bloodstream.  No idea about the other STD's, but i'd guess that if they don't create a route for infection (lesions or sores) that they would have nothing to do with an increased risk of HIV infection.
