Hi, what kind of test was it? 3rd gen, 4th gen? If 4th gen, it's duo so also hiv 2 and antigen. But next to that, what was the risk?
Also from what I know, hiv2 is very rare(even in Africa it's not common) and after 3 month even 3rd gen is considered conclusive.
well, the risk was one time unprotected sex with indian prostitute...
also the receptionist at the diagnostic centre doesn't know the generation of testing..she said that i need to worry about hiv only if i test positive for the above mentioned test...
also is a 3rd generation test conclusive even for hiv2 at 3 months????
You should ask for a consultance person at the clinic. They know which test is taken. Normally 3rd gen would be enough at 3month. But also, most clinics nowdays use 4th gen. Maybe only in some area's of Africa.
Just to let you know, the antibodies of hiv 2 is almost the same ss hiv1 so the test would show something(positive or indeterminated) but the time to show antibodied at 3rd gen is slightly longer then 4th gen. Also 4th gen had antigen test.
But please keep also in mind that hiv2 is ectremely rare, even in camaroen where most cases have been reported.
Yes, 3rd generation tests are conclusive for both HIV-1 and HIV-2 at 3 months ((or over)) post exposure.
