I could only wish for the best, Ill get tested once im able, right now in in a different country, and cannot be properly tested until I return to my boat in 6 days. Thank you.
I can not argue on what you say.
But, folks come here for advice. If they had a true risk I will stick with the FDA"s recommendations.
It's a North American superiority complex thing (smiley face).
I don't want to railroad TJ's original post. He had a miniscule risk and he will more than likely be fine. But he will need to test at 12 weeks.
I am not prepared to contradict "teak" in any way. As he will descend upon me me with furious anger. (another smiley face)
The UK testing guidelines on 4 generation on all other HIV tests are the same as the US. Early detection and a conclusive negative are not the same thing.
UK Fourth Generation Testing

Post testing

The need for a repeat HIV test if still within the window period after a specific exposure should be discussed. Although fourth generation tests shorten the time from exposure to seroconversion a repeat test at three months is still recommended to definitively exclude HIV infection.
I agree with what you have said but the UK has alot more data about DUO tests then the USA does. The USA only approved the test in 2010,so they lag behind as far as the DUO is concerned. The soul purpose of the DUO is to provide early detection, that's what it was designed for and the manufacturers of the test agree & are aware of this.
I would have re-phrased that from "won't" to "unlikely".
We are playing with semantics here .
But what's right is right.
I did not design the tests.
I did not evaluate the tests.
I did not conduct thousands of tests and filled out thousands of questionnaires.
The manufacturer did and the CDC did and the FDA evaluated the results!
An antibody test is still the most reliable indicator of ones status. Different folks will sero-convert at different times. Most by six weeks, "mostest" by eight...but NOT all !...let me reiterate NOT ALL!
How many?...Who knows and who cares.
We tend, at least I do and so does Rainlover, to alleviate the anxiety of some posters, but in retrospect we may not do them any favours.
The posters in here put themselves at risk, in 2013, when we all should know how HIV is transmitted , doing foolish things and so, as cruel as it may seem, they must go through 84 days, 12 weeks or three months worth of Dante's Inferno and wait for a conclusive result.
It is what it is. And I cannot change that.
Testing earlier with PCR or Duo is great and may alleviate stress, yet you owe it to the person in your life with whom you engage in unprotected sex(because she/he trusts you) to follow the guidelines and make absolutely and conclusively sure you are not infected! It's as cheap and easy as a garden variety oral swab test you can purchase at Walmart of all places....but...you must wait for 84days!
8 weeks is probably fine...BUT, the folks that govern, evaluate and seen the clinical trials insist, at least for now on 3 (three) months!
Just to catch the random outlier that may slip through the cracks.
To say otherwise is taking on a huge responsibility. And I am not prepared to do that.
Dr Hook and Dr Handsfield know their stuff. No doubt about it. they call an 8 week test is conclusive. Fine with me. I am in no position to argue with them.
And I won't!
But if the guide lines from the manufacturers of the tests and the FDA approvals do not change then I cannot, with a clear conscience say otherwise.
And that's my four (and some) cents.
Population of the philippines 94 million--cases of HIV--8543,you do the math.
True,he should test out to 12 weeks, there are no shortcuts, highly unlikely to change though.
You still can't say that.
Sorry, what i meant to say is if the result is negative if you test now at 8 weeks,it won't change at 12 weeks. We have new tests now that are extremely sensitive.
There is no one that can guarantee what your results will be.
Go & test now because a negative at 8 weeks won't change at 12 weeks--trust me.
I think im expecting the worst, and just finding reasons in my head that may be unrelated to be afraid.
Symptoms are unreliable indicators. Your bump is more than likely unrelated.
A negative test at 8 weeks would be very encouraging.
It's up to you, but you still must test at 12 weeks.
But could these indeed be symptoms?
Should I go now? or wait 4 weeks?
Ok. You have only 4 weeks to go before getting your conclusive result.
about 2 months ago, and it was vaginal sex. originally had a condom on, and it broke.
Could you elaborate on what kind of unprotected sex you had and how long ago?
Thanks for your reply, Im Extrememly worried, ive made some mistakes im not proud of, and I don't need something that will destroy my Marriage and my Career. Im still young, only 22.
You need to have an HIV test at 3 months post--exposure if it was unprotected vaginal or anal sex.
