blood tests and acute hiv infection

Dear,

I have noticed a lot of people which had more or less risk exposures but after a week or two, they have a normal illness (esp. during winter when it is normal to get cold or flu) and start being irrational.

So, could you please advice on the most usual disorder in regular blood tests when people having acute hiv infection (e.g. what could be the number of WBC and lymphocites – what about RBC, crp, ALT, AST etc..).

btw, I know that ARC symptoms are non-specific and only HIV test results are conclusive but I know that there are some indicators in regular blood tests as well (lower number of WBC, but what is the range)…

If you think that this will spread even more panic, do not bother yourself with answering…

Best regards ;)

you state that the ESR can be very low in the acute infection,  indeed my ID told me that is a specific indication of HIV or HCV infection.

Have you any  scientific documents about that ?

Thanks,

ESR is almost always elevated (very rarely it is within normal ranges, even quite low).
CRP and fibrinogen are less sensitive to acute hiv infection, but they are also almost always elevated.

Leukopenia (low WBC) is present in only 40% of people which are experiencing ARS, so it is not remarkable parameter. ALT and AST also, only in 40% patients they are elevated (3 digit values).

But, anemia is quite oftenly present during and post ARS. Decrease in PLT, HGB and Iron are very common to meet. LDH and ALP should be monitored also, they are quite sensitive during primary infection.

And just as always - it doesn't mean anything. Any other illness can cause elevation of mentioned markers. :)
