whether i hav hiv?
i am from India. Iam govt Medical practicener . i got a needle prick during surgury on 29/6/2010 in primary health care centre where no fascility for hiv screening available & i had sex with my under official wife on 02/07/2010 since the i experinced arthralgia , myalgia from 11/07/2010 to 07/08/2010 but no fever. i have done cobas taqman test on 13/07/10 it was negative. but the symptoms were continue then i have done p24 antigen test on 29/0810 which was negative. then ihve done hiv duo 4th generation test on 07/0810 which was negative. ihav some relief from the symptoms from 8/08/10 but as i know hiv 2 detection is done by taqman & p24 . but i have some assurance from the hiv duo but it detects p24 & antibody to hiv1 &2. can i detect antiboby at end of fifth week of infection. iam afraid because of my symptoms that i have suffered. what test i should take for over rulling hiv2 with conformation right know.
one hope is that the sex parterner is -ve in screening. and it was not bore needle but chromic catgut attached 1.0 on needle.
cobas taqman test is nucleic acid amplification test which is only for hiv 1 RNA protein.and is negative at 3rd week. hiv 2 is unanswered it is answered in duo with cmia. at 4.5 wks. which is also -ve. as i hve not much experience of such pts so i am asking u.
In India, I believe Drpg had sex with the wife of his subordinate or those working under him, no offence pls correct me if wrong, hence I am writing this that considering u had sex with some body else other than ur wife and without a condom. I dont know why u tested for TB, a mantaq was not needed?
A duo like Elisa or CMIA would give u a fair idea about your status, since u are a med and u believe u had a bore needle injury , that was sufficient for you to be on PEP(now u dont have that option) for 28 days Combivar etc. U probably are on the clear. U can do a final test Elisa, at 3 months and 6 months for conclusiveness, or u can go fro WB or NAT testing which would confirm ur status but are highly expensive.

u r in medical field.. so u shud hav known more about hiv, than us...And i am also from india...needle prick is an accident.. but sex with under officila's wife...?????? Anyway repeated testing upto 3 months wil gve u solution..if u regret 4 ur mistake and feel for it, and pray 2 god, am sure he dont let us down... take care...

HIV symptoms appears after 2-4weeks of the potential exposure then last for a week or weeks not on days. 4 weeks test is reassuring. 6-8 weeks DUO or ELISA test is to know one's status. 12 weeks is the conclusive result. I think you don't have a risk from the needle prick incident.
