Hi. I have a general question. Yesterday, I decided to get another tattoo for my birthday, which is today. I went to a tattoo parlor that I've been to before, but I let a different tattooist do it. When I got there, I was told to wait in the waiting area while he finished a client he was with. After, I met the tattooist and he told me to give him five minutes while his assistant prepared everything. When I went into the room, the gun was prepared and black ink was laying out. He wiped down the chair, table surface and the arm rest. He had on gloves. He then changed his gloves, poured other colors of ink and then proceeded with the tattoo.
Here's my worries.
I didn't see him change the needle
I don't know if the black ink used was newly poured or used on the previous client
Maybe its anxiety but I didn't think about any of this until this morning. What's the odds of contracting HIV this way, assuming that the needle wasn't changed or sterile? I've visited this shop before, seen the certifications ad well as the tattooist's certifications. Always possibility of human error right?
